Beechcraft A55 Baron General Information

Lilydale Air Services operates two of these speedy charter aircraft. Derived from the Bonanzas, they offer very similar performance and handling characteristics, plus a very handy extra 20-30 knots. Click on the thumbnails for larger pictures of A55 Baron, VH-ISA and B55 Baron VH-APL.

Derived directly from the Travelair, the Model 55 Baron first flew in 1960 and was an instant smash hit - easily outselling its rivals, the Cessna 310 and Piper Apache/Aztec. The main difference from the Travelair was 260hp 6 cylinder Continental IO-470s, higher gross weight and a larger, swept tailfin. Later versions of the A55 and B55 saw swept windows while the C, D and E 55 models have 285hp IO-520 engines and further increases in gross weight.
