Piper PA-28-161 Warrior II

Lilydale chooses to use Piper Warriors for basic and navigation training because of their gentle flying characteristics, quietness and good performance. They also have 4 seats which allow you to take family or friends flying sooner!

Lilydale operates 4 Warriors - BZA ('Bazza'), CCQ ('Quebec'), CWW ('Whiskey') & FTQ. Warrior History

The Piper Warrior II is the last basic development of the line aircraft stretching back to the original Piper PA-28 Cherokee that first flew in 1959. Various versions of 140hp, 160hp, 180hp and 235hp subsequently evolved before the Piper Warrior I was first introduced in 1974.

The Warrior I combined the stretched cabin of the Piper 180, the 150hp of the Cruiser and a new tapered wing that boosted performance and handling. In 1976 it was offered with high compression cylinders producing 160hp, refined ailerons, and a slightly higher gross weight to create the Warrior II.

Thousands were subsequently built before production was finally halted in 1989 when Piper closed its doors. However, proof of the soundness of the design lies in the fact that the very same aircraft are again being built by New Piper as the Warrior III, retailing for around US$250,000.00! These aircraft are identical to the 1980s versions apart from some updated instruments and interior refinements.
